John先生、今までこのブログに登場しそうでしなかった、チャイナタウンについてのレポートを書いていただきました。
チャイナタウンは、マニラにある場所でKOKOが好きな場所の一つです。
日本の中華街のようには整備されていませんが、人が生活しているエネルギーを感じることができます。
それでは、John先生の記事をご紹介します！
MY TRIP TO BINONDO ～ビノンド散策～
I love walking trips.
It makes me appreciate my surroundings.

先週、私はマニラの歴史的な地区のひとつであるBinondo（ビノンド）を散策してきました。
Binondo is home to the world’s oldest Chinatown.
There are a lot of Chinese stores, restaurants and other establishments in this area.

このエリアにはたくさんの中国系のお店や中華料理のレストランなど様々な施設があります。
The streets are decorated with Chinese lanterns and small pagodas.
There is even a golden cross where Catholics can pray and offer incense, infusing the traditions of the Filipinos and the Chinese.

One of the main attractions of Binondo is the Escolta Street.
Escolta is known for its old structures.
Most of the buildings in the area were built during the 1920s, thus having their distinct art-deco and neo-classical features.
It used to be Manila’s financial district before companies shifted to Makati.

このエリアにあるほとんどの建物は1920年代に建てられたもので、アールデコ建築で新古典派の特徴を持っています。
(現在の金融街である)Makati（マカティ）に企業が移転するまで、ここがマニラの金融街でした。
It’s good to see that efforts have been made to revitalize these buildings. A lot of them have stood the test of time while some of them are left ruined. There are some groups that organize weekend tours to make it a tourist destination.
これらの建物を甦らせる試みがなされていることはとても良いことです。多くの建物は廃墟として放置され、長い間その時を耐えてきました。
そして現在、これらの観光スポットを巡る週末ツアーを企画するグループがあります。

マニラのチャイナタウンが、世界最古のチャイナタウンとは知りませんでした。
Binondo地区は、マニラの他の地域とは明らかに趣きが異なっているので、マニラに観光にお越し頂く方は一度行ってみることをオススメ致します。
でも、夜は治安があまりよくない場所もありますので、ご注意を・・・。
