Hunter先生のアラヤット山旅行記

本日は、hanaso講師の英文レポートをご紹介致します。
本日のレポートを書いて頂いた先生は、Hunter先生です。
Hunter先生、アラヤット山という場所に登山に行ってきたようです。
このアラヤット山についてＫＯＫＯは名前を知らなかったのですが、フィリピンの民話の題材になるような由緒正しい、有名な山のようですね。
それではレポートをご紹介致します。
Conquering Mt. Arayat
I grew up in an Island with no mountains around. Often times I would find myself wondering how difficult would it be to climb a mountain. One day my Father received a text message from an old friend. He was inviting us to join mountain climbing. During that time my Father was hesitant but after thinking long and hard my Father decided that we will join the climb.
山のない島で育った私にとって山登りは少し大変なことです。ある日、私の父が古い友人からメールを受け取りました。そこには一緒に山登りに行こうという趣旨が書かれていました。父は、しばらくどうしたものか思い悩んだあげく、家族で友人の誘いにのって山登りに参加することを決めました。
Mt. Arayat is a towering 1030 MASL (Meters above Sea Level), it has 2 summits North peak and South peak. The group decided to achieve both and start with the north peak. We camped at north peak and stayed for the night till dawn. The sunrise was majestic.
アラヤット山（Mt.Arayat）は標高1030メートルで北山と南山という2つの頂を持っています。我々は双方の頂を制覇しようと決め、まず北山から登ることにしました。そしてその頂でキャンプをして一夜を過ごし、夜明けを見ることにしました。山頂からの夜明けは最高でした。
We decided to leave North peak and head to South peak. South peak was more majestic than North.
それから、北山の山頂を出発し、南山を目指しました。南山は北山以上の絶景でした。
After taking many pictures we decided to go down the mountain. The trail ahead was more of a challenge than the previous one because of the vertical assaults and rock faces we had to go through. After a few hours we finally found ourselves on the foot of the mountain directly on the other side. With a refreshing halo-halo we celebrated for conquering Mt.Arayat.
思う存分写真を撮った後、我々は山を下りることにしました。下りの山道は垂直に切り立った岩が多く、行きに通った道と比べてはるかに大変でした。我々は数時間、山との格闘の後、登りのスタート地点と反対側の麓にたどり着きました。アラヤット山を制覇した我々はハロハロ（フィリピンの有名なデザート）を食べて、その成功を祝いました。
ネットで調べてみると、アラヤット山はパンパンガ州という場所にあり、マニラから2～3時間で行くことが出来るみたいです。
それにしても、登山後のハロハロは美味しそうです！ＫＯＫＯが日本で登山を終えた時はビールで祝杯を上げましたが、ハロハロで祝杯とはフィリピンらしくていいですね。
ＫＯＫＯもこのアラヤット山に行ってみたいなあ・・・。
