Yan先生のマヨン山旅行記

本日は人気コーナー、hanaso講師の英文レポートをご紹介致します。
今回レポートを作ってくれたのは、２回目の登場、Yan先生です！
Yan先生、マヨン山という日本の富士山みたいな山に行ってきたみたいです。
web上で検索をかけて画像を見てみると、本当に美しい山ですね。ＫＯＫＯも行ってみたい！
それでは、Yan先生のレポートを紹介致します！

元気ですか？今日一日の仕事で疲れていませんか？もしかして、もう休暇をどう過ごそうか考えていたりしませんか？それなら、好都合です。この機会に、あなたがきっと気に入ってくれるようなフィリピンの観光地を紹介します。
Famous for its perfect cone shape similar to Mt.Fuji, this volcano has been a tourist spot
since time immemorial. But mind you, there is a belief that when you go to this place, you can’t really see the full view of the volcano. It is often covered with clouds, so you have to be really patient to see her prominent beauty. The reason why is because of the legend of Mt. Mayon, which narrates that the name Mayon was from “Daragang Magayon” in their dialect. (Daraga is lady and Magayon is beautiful) So “she” (the volcano) is often shy so she doesn’t want to show herself to tourists on first glance. (Anyway it’s just a belief. Maybe it’s just often cloudy.)

マヨン山（Mt. Mayon）は富士山のようにそのきれいな円錐形をした山として有名で古くから観光スポットして知られていた火山です。この山は、登山客が行くと山の全景を見ることができないと信じられています。山は頻繁に雲に覆われていて、辛抱強く待たないとその全景を見ることはできません。これには古い言い伝えがあってマヨン（Mayon）とはその地方の方言で「ダラガングマガヨン（Daragang Magayon）」という言葉に由来し、Daragangは女性 を Magayonは美を意味します。彼女（山）は恥ずかしがり屋でその姿を人前に見せたがらないというのです。（このように昔から信じられていますが、曇りが多い気候にあるというのが真実でしょう）

でも、「表紙から本の内容を判断するな」ということわざがあるように、マヨンにはとても素晴らしい光景が広がっています。その一方で、危険もあります。マヨン山は活火山で、噴火をした時には、多くの人が命の危険にさらされました。（1814年にはカグサワ（Cagsawa）という街全体が火山流に埋まり、教会だけその姿の一部を今に残しています。）
There are a lot of places where you can go to once you step into the Bicol Region. But when you do, please stop by at some store where you can buy Pili nuts. The taste can compete with almond. There’s a catch though. You need to break its hard shell properly before you can eat them.
ビスコル地方（Bicol ）にはそのほか、たくさんの見所があります。その中で１つ忘れてはならないのが、ピリ・ナッツという木の実を店に立ち寄って買うことです。その味はアーモンドにも勝るとも劣りません。ただし、食べるときにはかたい殻を割らないといけません。
というのは冗談で、お土産屋に行けば殻を割って食べられる状態のものが売っています。
So relaxing at it may seem, keep in mind when you book a flight, the weather is calm. Actually, when the volcano is erupting, the tourists are coming to witness how it happens. It’s very dangerous though, but… WOULD YOU DARE?
旅行する注意点としては、フライトを予約するときに天気が穏やかかどうか確認することです。火山が噴煙を上げているときは、観光客もその状況を目の当たりにすることができます。危険ですが敢えて行ってみる勇気はありますか？
へえ～活火山のようですね。登るのは危険みたいですけど大丈夫なのかな？
ＫＯＫＯは登山用のバックパックだけ持っていますが、登るのにはかなり本格的な装備が必要でしょうね・・・。
景色は絶景だと思いますので、休みをとって、この麓でもいいので行ってみたいです！
